More and more people want to buy Manuka honey. The healthy nectar from New Zealand, known for its health benefits is gaining popularity. The big audience slowly becomes aware of the benefits of this special honey. Many are correctly wary of the next so called miracle product that's being hyped by the natural products business. Where to buy Manuka honey?
Where actually isn't that important. What does matter is when buying this product is to make sure you buy the real deal. This is many times called active Manuka honey. But when you see the word active on the label of the honey jar that's no guarantee it really is active honey.
If you want to buy the real thing you should only buy Manuka honey that has UMF on its label with a rating of at least 10 UMF (or a MGO Rating of minimal 100). These are the only products which are tested for their antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial activity. For example the Amazon bestsellers list shows that many of us are not aware of this distinction. The fact that the honey from Wedderspoon is the most sold brand but it actually is not a genuine active product (and thus tested) proves this.
The Active Manuka Honey Association provides a checklist to identify genuine active UMF® honey:
1. It has the name UMF® clearly stated on the front label.
2. It is packed into jars and labelled in New Zealand.
3. It is from a New Zealand company licensed to use the name UMF®.
4. It has the UMF® licensee's name on the front label.
5. It has a rating of UMF 10 or more.
